Antonio Mancini (1852 - 1930), "Portrait of a young girl"
Antonio Mancini (1852 - 1930)
"Portrait of a young girl". Oil on canvas. Size 48x37 cm. Signed lower left A. Mancini. Framed. The portrait is presented in virtuosic, strongly pastose brushwork, close to Impressionism, conveying a shimmering atmosphere. The painter is one of the most important artists of Italian modernism. After praising his youth drawings by Domenico Morelli (1823-1901), he was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples at the age of twelve. Already at the age of 18 he exhibited to great acclaim at the Salon du Paris. Mancini was a member of the Verismo movement. He went to France in 1877, where he met Édouard Manet (1832-1883) and Edgar Degas (1834-1917), later he was a close friend of John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) in London. Provenance: Private Collection, Netherlands
