MERIGOT, James (1760–1824) - A select collection of views and ruins in Rome, and its vicinity. Recently executed from drawings made upon the spot. Londra: Robinson, White, Faulder, Evans, [filigrane datate 1806-1818].

MERIGOT, James (1760–1824) - A select collection of views and ruins in Rome, and its vicinity. Recently executed from drawings made upon the spot. London: Robinson, White, Faulder, Evans, [filigrane datate 1806-1818].

Internally a fine copy with hand-coloured plates and of large paper format with margins of about 10cm higher compared to the standard edition. The copy is complete with all the plates and without the usual foxing. The printing date was desumed from the watermark “J. Whatman Turkey Mills 1818 ”clearly visible on“ The Tomb of Cecilia Metella”, but most of the other plates bear the date 1817, while some pages of text dated 1806.

Folio (424 x 310mm). 62 hand-coloured aquatint plates including title, plates dated from 1796 to 1798, but with later watermarks (text leaves slightly yellowed, few sporadic small stains). Later binding backed in leather with earlier spine label.
