Attic Red-Figure Column Krater, First Mannerists Group, 470 - 460 BC; height cm 37,5, diam. cm 32; On one side there is the representation of the God Dionysus, depicted in a central position, moving to the right, holding a kantharos and a vine shoot. On his sides there are a satyr with a goat and a female figure playing the chitara. On the opposite side, a maenad with a torch is in central position, between two dancing satyrs. The accessory decoration consists of palmettes, a crown of buds on the hem and neck and radiant rays from the foot. Restored but highly decorative. Provenance: From the collection of Dr. G. Marschall (1913 - 1997), Hamburg, purchased between 1967 and 1975; afterwards in an Italian collection, with an export licence issued by the Republic of Italy and with a copy of a handwritten note: Beazley connected the crater to the Pig Painter.
