Wonderful lustrous tone, virtually as struck and almost fdc. -
Lot 602 Constantine I (306-337), Medallion, Rome, ca. AD 327-333; AE (g 29,62; mm 39; h 6); CONSTANTI - NVS MAX AVG, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust r., Rv. SECVRITAS - AVGVSTI N, Securitas standing l., head r., holding sceptre and resting elbow on column; two captives seated l. and r., back to back, in attitude of mourning. C 170/493; Gnecchi II, n. 9, pl. 130,7.
Very rare. A spectacular medallion and work of a very skilled master-engraver. A portrait in the finest style of the period and with an interesting reverse composition. Perfectly struck and centred on a very large flan, lovely green patina with traces of silvering, extremely fine - good extremely fine. -
