The graceful artistic language and Dandini-style figuration of this period, as well as being found in his pupils’ work, can be considered characteristic elements of various painters active in mid-seventeenth century Florence. Seen in certain works by prominent artists such as Dolci and Ficherelli, the lesson of the by now elderly master, is captured in a paradigmatic way, even by minor personalities, some of whom were almost unknown. Indeed, this is the case of Taddeo Baldini, pupil of Matteo Rosselli, who in works that are datable to his early period, such as the two small canvases portraying St. Cecilia and St. Dorothy in a private Florentine collection, reveal both an interest in the work of Lorenzo Lippi and Onorio Marinari and also similarities to Dandini’s stylistic language in the sweetly rounded faces, the elegant cut of the robes and in the movement of the precious cloth, that is rich in its special shiny iridescence and enamel-like effects.
