Zhang Daqian è uno dei più noti e più venduti pittori cinesi del XX secolo, nato nel 1899 nella provincia di Sichuan il suo primo approccio alla pittura fu attraverso la riproduzione dei classici e maestri quali Shitao e Bada Shanren ebbero una forte influenza nello sviluppo del suo stile. Particolarmente prolifico nella sua produzione, Zhang Daqian produsse circa 500 dipinti l'anno, molti dei quali concepiti come regali per personaggi di spicco del'epoca. Celebre il suo incontro e scambio di dipinti con Pablo Picasso nel 1956, un incontro ricordato come l'incontro tra Oriente ed Occidente. Alcune delle sue opere che riproducono classici della pittura cinese sono conservate nei musei quali il Metropolitan di New York, il Museum of Fine Arts di Boston e la Freer Gallery di Washington D.C. Zhang Daqian is one of the best known and most sought after 20th century painters. Born in 1899 in the Sichuan province, his first forays in painting were the copies of classic works, and the development of his style was heavily influenced by masters such as Shitao and Bada Shanren. A particularly prolific painter, Zhang Daqian produced about 500 paintings per year, many of which were conceived as gifts for distinguished personalities of the time. Especially famous was his meeting with Pablo Picasso in 1956, with whom he exchanged paintings; a meeting remembered as that between the East and the West. Some of his copies of classic Chinese works are in museums such as the Metropolitan of New York, the Museum of Fine Arts of Boston and the Freer Gallery of Washington D.C.
