Arte Sud-Est Asiatico Statua in bronzo dorato raffigurante Buddha Sakyamuni
Sri Lanka, periodo Kandy, XVIII secolo o antecedente . -. Cm 9,50 x 13,00. Di rara reperibilità sul mercato antiquario, la fusione in bronzo raffigura il Buddha storico seduto su una base a doppio loto in posizione paryanka con le mani nel gesto dhyanamudra. Da notare la fine lavorazione delle vesti ondulate -che si rifanno alla statuaria arcaica indiana di Amaravati e Nagajunakonda-, l'ornamento fiammeggiante in finale di acconciatura e gli occhi aperti e fissi, tutte caratteristiche tipiche del periodo citato se non addirittura rispondenti ad un gusto ancora più arcaico.

Arte Sud-Est Asiatico A rare gilded bronze statue of Buddha Sakyamuni
Sri Lanka, Kandy period, 18th century or earlier . . Cm 9,50 x 13,00. Difficult to find on the antiquarian market, the bronze cast sculpture depicts the Gautama Buddha sitting on a double lotus base, in the paryanka position, with the hands performing the dhyanamudra gesture. Worthy of notice are the fine depiction of the flowing robes – recalling the Indian sculptural tradition of Amaravati and Nagajunakonda –, the flaming ornament decorating the hair, and the fixed open eyes, all characteristics typical of the period in exam, or perhaps even of an earlier one.
