A French Louis XVI mantel clock Portique Piolaine à Paris. Enamel dial with black Arabic numerals surrounded by minute dots and Arabic minute numerals. Fire-gilt, engraved openwork brass hand. Signed in black ‘Piolaine à Paris’. 8-day spring-driven movement with anchor escapement and silk-suspended pendulum. The white marble base rests on eight fire-gilt bronze spinning top feet and is decorated with fire-gilt rosettes, panels and pearl borders. On the base are two columns with a ‘Wedgewood’ style plaque in the middle. Glass for dial is missing.
