A white travertine / alabaster situla, restored. New Kingdom: 1550 - 1070 BC. This object comes with a valuation report by Mr. H.J. Pragt, Egyptologist.
He writes: This model situla made of travertine, also called Egyptian alabaster, imitates a larger version in bronze. A situla is a bucket that was used in Egyptian temples to pour water, usually from the Sacred Lake, for the gods. The shape of this type of bronze situlae refers to a drop of water. The flattened bottom and the rounded profile of this example made of travertine correspond to the shapes that normally occur in bronze. In a bronze example, a metal handle would have been attached to the bucket by means of the two rinen on the upper edge.
